After my first year at Respect4us, I definitely enjoyed the few first months, got involved in a few activities, and was a great experience, some of the activities I didn’t enjoy, but I still had a good try at it. If I knew that I disliked an activity I would tell Tobi that I disliked that activity, and I would sit aside of the activity and watch the others do it.
One of the only problems I had on my first year was that I am not the greatest with heights and lifting myself of the ground level, and then we started to do rock climbing, and I didn’t do the first lesson, but the next time that we went there I tried it, I got a little bit up the wall, and as the weeks progressed I got even higher up the wall. Eventually at the last lesson I got at least ¾ up the wall, and I was quite proud of myself, as well as Tobi being proud of me too, as well as some of the students.
But coming back to Respect4us as a year 11 now, there wasn’t many people that were at the Swaffham side of us, but the good thing was is that I got along with everyone at the Swaffham side, so there would be a lot more communication between me and the others. And as the weeks progressed more people are starting to join us and I am meeting a lot more people, making a few more friends and having a good chat and laugh with our group. It will be a lot more fun when we get more people with us, as we can participate in more activities that require a few amount of people.
But one thing that I have focused on this term/year is my cooking/catering skills, as it is something that I now enjoy to do myself, as well with others. I only started properly cooking this year by myself mainly, but I have had a few people help me with some other bits, which is also fun. One day we made a steak pie together and it was great, and I remembered how to make it, and the day I went home I insisted that I made one at home, so after I got all the ingredients to do so, I made a steak pie with my family. Now knowing that I can remember a recipe to something, I thought it would be a good idea to learn more recipes to things, as well as creating my own in the future.
But since then I have made a few more things that I originally intended to do, and now I really enjoy cooking, especially. I decided to do catering at college when I leave Respect4us, I originally intended to do Graphic Animation, but I had to change my mind, as I thoroughly enjoy cooking a bit more than I usually did. Which on my half, is a great thing to be able to say, and do.
But going back to other activities, most of the activities that we do I enjoy, but the ones that I don’t, I won’t force myself to do them, but the ones that I enjoy I will definitely take part in them. Especially such things as Football (Not A full match), Pool/Snooker, Crafting/Building small objects, drawing, I enjoy a lot more but I can’t list every one of them here.
13th January 2015
After our Christmas holidays, we haven’t done too much work as it’s only been 1 week today of returning, and on our first day back (Tuesday) we went for a little walk around a lake, exploring around. Looking at some of the nature. After we had finished that, we had come back to the unit (Swaffham) and continued with one of my favourite things to do, which is cooking. We decided to cook a healthy meal, because we haven’t done a healthy meal in quite a long time, so on the first week back it was perfect timing.
I hadn’t done much on my first few days back, as I was elsewhere at a different school, doing an exam. Hopefully soon I will get my results for that. So unfortunately I missed half of my week at Respect4us. I didn’t get to enjoy some activities they did, but my schedule is back to normal. Respect4us 4 days a week, as Respect4us is something that I really enjoy.
I will hopefully enjoy my last few months here, and will definitely be doing some great fun activities & games with the group. Whether it be something that I enjoy or not, I will still attempt to do it, even If I can’t do it, even trying my hardest. It was worth the try.
But if it is something that I enjoy, then I will persuade Tobi to take us back there sometime in the future & he will try to book it again if it is possible.
