Healthy History

During the second half of the year we have had a number of Key Stage 3 students on Tuesdays. We wanted a project that would interest them, keep them active and busy and keep them in touch with a subject they might study at Key Stage 4.  We came up with the idea of Healthy History because there is so much opportunity for active learning involving history in Norfolk.  Another advantage was that Dom began his professional life as a history teacher so we could make him do all the work!  Actually that’s not really true because after we launched the idea the young people themselves took on most of the research and organisation.  Darren proved brilliant at map reading and found all the best routes to get to our historical destination.  Jake was the minibus supervisor and checked everyone was wearing their seat belts. Ben and Carley did the research and helped decide where we were going each week. Chelsea prepared the work sheets that the young people filled in each week about the visit they had done the previous week.

Darren took part in nearly all our visits.  “I liked Castle Acre the best because we had fun attacking it and climbing up the steep slopes and rocks.  Sandringham was pretty good too because we saw where the Queen lives.”
